Full job description
What You'll Do
- Review customer RFQs, blueprints, and 3D models to understand part requirements, tolerances, and scope.
- Develop detailed cost estimates covering material, labor, setup time, cycle time, tooling, and outside processing.
- Calculate machine and labor hours based on process knowledge of milling, turning, and related CNC operations.
- Source and obtain quotes for raw materials and outside services (heat treat, plating, coatings, etc.).
- Collaborate with shop leads and engineering to confirm manufacturability and identify the most efficient process.
- Prepare and submit formal, professional quotes and proposals to customers within established timelines.
- Clarify technical or scope questions directly with customers, engineering, and production as needed.
- Track quote win/loss outcomes and use that feedback to continuously sharpen estimating accuracy.
- Maintain organized, accurate estimating records within LMC's ERP/quoting systems.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of experience estimating or quoting in a machine shop, job shop, or precision manufacturing environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications.
- Working knowledge of CNC machining processes (milling, turning) and typical cycle-time drivers.
- Solid shop math skills — geometry, trigonometry, and material yield calculations.
- Comfort with ERP and/or quoting software; strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Clear communicator who can work confidently with customers, vendors, and the shop floor alike.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple quotes at once under deadline.
**Prior CNC operating, programming, or manufacturing engineering experience is a plus, but not required.
